TAILOR-MADE WALKING HOLIDAYS

We have decided to stop offering tailor-made walking holidays as the vast majority of our walkers prefer to plan their own walks. However, we will continue to offer our maps, directions and suggestions to any walking guests at no extra cost.

NORTH WESSEX DOWNS AONB

Southdown is on the edge of the North Wessex Downs AONB and we work with them to publicise this beautiful area. They have produced a website full of very useful information for visitors.

To see what they offer, click on the logo here or at the top of any page.

IMPROVEMENTS

We’re always looking for ways to improve our guests’ experience while staying here and this year we have installed heated towel rails in the bathrooms for the green and white rooms (there’s already one in the coffee bathroom).

We have also installed new lighting at the entrance and along the driveway. We have been using solar powered lights but they haven’t lived up to our expectations and keep failing.

Additionally, we have fitted a gate to the side garden which will mean a safer environment for anyone bringing their young children to Southdown.

WILTSHIRE BIRD TOURS

We have just met the owner of Wiltshire Bird Tours, set up to provide a relaxed and enjoyable break in the Wiltshire grasslands, discovering our unique wildlife.

We would be happy to arrange a tour for you, or see here.

A 676 MILE WALK!

We were recently honoured to welcome the Director of Football from  Cambridge United FC, Jez George, during his 676 mile charity walk (26 miles a day for 26 days). Jez & his team stayed overnight and made a couple of short videos about the stay. Click the links below.

Here we are at breakfast time.

And here is Jez in the coffee room talking about the walk and his overnight stay

And a longer radio piece in which we get lots of mentions.
